Bella Care Home, an assisted living facility in Clovis California, cannot stress enough the importance of exercise. Just like having a good rest, our body needs to be able to move as frequently as possible. Why? It is because our body is structured and made for moving around.
Allow us to ask this age old question: is it normal for the elderly to feel discomfort every time they move? Sure, it is normal alright. Elderly people always feel weak and all. But if you are in the medical profession, you would answer that it is not normal if the patient is feeling any type of pain. Therefore, elderly adults who are feeling discomforts mean that that there must be something wrong with their body.
In order to combat the inconveniences brought about by one’s old bones, we, as the primary caregiver and an assisted living facility in Clovis California, need to expose our elderly to exercise and we can do this by letting the seniors experience a variety of gentle exercises. So grab your pen as we list the different light exercises you can let your senior do in order to keep him or her healthy along the way.
All the seniors need to do is to sit down on a chair and stand up slowly and sit down again. We do not encourage them to just plop down to a sitting position. We instruct them to use their arms to assist them while performing the process. If the senior need more challenge, we use a lower-height chair. But if the process is too difficult, we turn to a higher-height chair. Repeat this exercise 10 to 15 times.
The senior can do this either by standing up or sitting down. If it helps, use a nylon strap that has a built-in loop for their hands and feet. This should involve more muscles along the way.
If other cardio exercises are too much of a burden for you and your older adult, you can always try marching. This is considered a light version of other cardio exercises available. If the space is just too small, let your senior do this exercise on the spot. It can serve as an appropriate warm up exercise. There is also another option where we let our seniors sit down and let them march by bringing their knees up alternately.
Aside from the way this activity burns calories, it also boost the pleasure hormones of our beloved elderly. It can help in alleviating depression and it can even beautify the house. This activity can also help combat arthritis. But while your senior is doing this, make sure that he or she is keeping up with their own pace.
Upper body twist
Do this by letting the seniors sit on a chair and guiding them as they twist their torso. This exercise can work on the senior’s back and is essential in developing, improving and maintaining the flexibility and mobility of the older adult.
In our assisted living facility in Clovis California, we only want what is best for our residents. In order to make them reach their full potential, we keep them healthy, loved and well-exercised.
